Opportunity

We are looking for a Commissioned Land Surveyor to join our team in Virden, Manitoba. This individual will be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, and final completion of specific projects related to surveying and mapping. This position is responsible for ensuring that every project is consistent with Caltech Survey’s commitments, goals, and strategies, as well as strict adherence to all applicable laws, standards, legislation, and regulations.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working in a team environment to establish project scope, budget and schedule
  • Overseeing the development of survey plans, methods and procedures for conducting land surveys
  • Certifying survey drawings
  • Leading the planning, implementation, supervision, direction, and control of individual projects
  • Completing project evaluations and assessment of results
  • Ensuring timely and accurate invoicing
  • Ensuring the quality assurance and quality control of all products and deliverables
  • Providing direction and support to the project team
  • Developing strong client relations and working with the Business Development Manager to secure new clients and increase work with existing clients
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Registered, or eligible for registration as a Provincial or Federal Land Surveyor (MLS, CLS)
  • Bachelor’s degree in geomatics engineering or survey engineering; or a college diploma in survey science or geomatics technology
  • Strong business presence – excellent work ethic, flexibility, resourcefulness, maturity and sound judgement
  • Good communication skills (interpersonal and written)
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and computer operating skills
  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple clients at one time and leada high performing team
  • Experience with wellsite and pipeline surveys for the oil & gas industry

Survey Party Chief – Virden, Manitoba

We are now looking for a Survey Party Chief for our Virden, Manitoba operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing field survey work on projects in the construction, pipeline, oil and gas, land development and legal land surveying industries.

Key Responsibilities
•Manage and perform field survey work with the help of Survey Assistants
•Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, to review and manage project budgets, timeline requirements, priorities and survey methodology
•Provide guidance, leadership and mentorship to Survey Assistants working with you
•Act as a company representative, liaising directly with client field representatives and land owners
•Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists and digital data in required formats for Project Managers, Land Surveyors and Drafting personnel
•Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the Caltech Surveys safety program

Qualifications
•Our successful candidate will be a graduate of a recognized post-secondary program related to surveying and geomatics or have an equivalent amount of related experience
•4 to 6 years of experience in the Survey Party Chief role
•Working knowledge and experience using Trimble equipment and software, RTK GPS and line locating would be considered an asset
•Proven communication skills – verbal and written; ability to produce accurate and legible field notes
•The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment
•Experience with the use of ATVs/UTVs, snowmobiles and chainsaws would be considered an asset
•A valid driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract as well as completed training and valid tickets in First Aid, H2S and CSTS safety training, is an asset
•Availability to travel and work away from home as required
