Caltech Surveys Ltd. has specialized in wellsite and pipeline surveys for oil and natural gas producers and pipeline companies, operating in Western Canada since 1990. Part of our business is to ensure our clients meet the regulatory requirements for digital and paper survey plans. These plans are created from field data using the latest data collection and CAD technologies.

Caltech Surveys is currently seeking an individual to fill the role of a CAD Technician in our Regina office that will complement our team and be able to contribute to our forward vision.

• Assist in developing and preparing survey drawings including wellsites, subdivisions, pipelines, individual ownership and crossing plans
• Interpret field notes, sketches, legal plans, air photos and digital data
• Prepare plans to be submitted to the Land Registry Office
• Assist in general mapping and drafting duties including CAD and ArcGIS mapping
• Ensure drafting standards, procedures, overall data quality and integrity are met
• Participate in the health and safety program

Qualifications that would be an asset include:
• 2-5 years’ experience drafting or mapping SK legal plans, and oil and gas plans
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3-D and Microsurvey co-ordinate calculation software
• Experience ESRI ArcGIS Software would be an asset
• Experience with processing survey data (Trimble preferably)
• Prior field experience would be an asset but not required
• Proven written and verbal communication skills
• Have the ability to identify and set priorities and possess effective time management skills

Plan Checker/Geomatics Technician

Caltech Surveys Ltd. is looking to add a Plan Checker to our Regina office. The successful candidate would be a part of a team that is responsible for the quality assurance and quality control of the Survey Plans received from the CAD department. The Plan Checker verifies that the Plans conform to Caltech standards, provincial and municipal regulations, industry licensing requirements and Land Titles registration requirements, are correct and meet the survey requirements as set out in the applicable provincial land surveying Manual of Standard Practice and the Surveys Act. In addition, they need to verify that Plans have all the required information on them in order to meet client needs/requests.

This position may be required to work on plans for multiple provinces, including Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Experience in these provinces is not required, but would be considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure overall quality assurance and quality control
  • Review Plans for completeness and accuracy using Caltech and industry standards of practice including applicable provincial land surveying Manual of Standard Practice and industry licensing requirements
  • Ensure that Plans have all client requested information included on them
  • Conduct calculations and closures to ensure that Plan numerical information is correct and that they are based on the correct governing evidence assessment
  • Note errors and omissions on the Plans and suggest modifications
  • Process survey data and ensure proper surveying procedures were carried out
  • Review titles and all title documents; check with appropriate land titles and/or crown Public Land Standing Report
  • Ensure all codes/legislation are adhered to
  • Complete the Plan Checker Checklist
  • Maintain familiarity with current survey and checking techniques


  • Diploma in Geomatics Technology, or equivalent
  • Experience with well site and pipeline surveys for the oil and gas industry (experience in multiple provinces would be an asset)
  • Familiarity with pipeline project CAD products such as construction survey plans and as-built data would be an asset
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsurvey co-ordinate calculation software
  • An understanding of the requirements for plan submissions to ISC
  • Proven communication and organizational skills

Survey Party Chief – Saskatchewan

We are looking for Survey Party Chiefs in the following areas:
– Regina
– Estevan
– Weyburn
– Swift Current
– Kindersley area
– Unity

The successful candidates will be responsible for performing field survey work on projects in the construction, pipeline, oil and gas, land development and legal land surveying industries.

Key Responsibilities
•Manage and perform field survey work with the help of Survey Assistants
•Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, to review and manage project budgets, timeline requirements, priorities and survey methodology
•Provide guidance, leadership and mentorship to Survey Assistants working with you
•Act as a company representative, liaising directly with client field representatives and land owners
•Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists and digital data in required formats for Project Managers, Land Surveyors and Drafting personnel
•Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the Caltech Surveys safety program

•Our successful candidate will be a graduate of a recognized post-secondary program related to surveying and geomatics or have an equivalent amount of related experience
•4 to 6 years of experience in the Survey Party Chief role
•Working knowledge and experience using Trimble equipment and software, RTK GPS and line locating would be considered an asset
•Proven communication skills – verbal and written; ability to produce accurate and legible field notes
•The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment
•Experience with the use of ATVs/UTVs, snowmobiles and chainsaws would be considered an asset
•A valid driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract as well as completed training and valid tickets in First Aid, H2S and CSTS safety training, is an asset
•Availability to travel and work away from home as required
