CAD Technician – Fort St. John

Caltech Surveys is a vibrant company that has been operating in Western Canada since 1990 servicing the Oil and Gas industry. Part of our business involves ensuring that our client’s needs are covered through the creation and submission of digital survey plans.

We are currently seeking an individual to fill the role of a CAD Technician in our Fort St. John office that will complement our team and be able to contribute to our forward vision.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and preparing survey drawings including well sites, pipelines, subdivisions,  individual ownership and crossing plans
  • Interpret field notes, sketches, legal plans, air photos and digital data
  • Prepare and submit plans to the Land Titles Office and Sustainable Resource Development
  • Assist in general mapping and drafting duties including CAD
  • Ensure drafting standards, procedures, overall data quality and integrity
  • Participate in the health and safety program

Qualifications that would be an asset include:

  • 2-5 years’ experience drafting
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3-D
  • Experience with processing survey data (Trimble preferably)
  • Experience with BC tenure research (MyLTSA, GATOR, ILRR, etc.) is an asset, but not required
  • Prior field experience would be an asset but not required
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Have the ability to identify and set priorities and possess effective time management skills

BC Land Surveyor – Project Manager

Opportunity

We are looking for a Commissioned Land Surveyor to join our team in our Fort St. John office. This individual will be responsible for the overall direction, coordination and control of land surveying services related to specific projects, ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals, as well as following provincial and national legislation.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working in a team environment to establish project scope, budget and schedule
  • Overseeing the development of survey plans, methods and procedures for conducting land surveys
  • Leading survey crews on projects; communicating project plan and schedule information
  • Managing project resource allocation
  • Ensuring timely and accurate invoicing
  • Ensuring the quality assurance and quality control of all products and deliverables
  • Providing direction and support to the project team
  • Developing strong client relationships
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 5 – 10 years’ experience (minimum 5 years)
  • Registered as a Professional BC Land Surveyor
  • Bachelor’s degree in geomatics engineering or survey engineering; or a college diploma in survey science or geomatics technology
  • Must be knowledgeable in the statutes, regulations, and practices of the Land Surveyors Act and Land Title Act, Local Government Act, Land Act and Land Survey Act
  • Strong business presence – excellent work ethic, flexibility, resourcefulness, maturity and good judgement
  • Good communication skills (interpersonal and written)
  • Strong mathematical and computer operating skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail

Survey Assistant – Fort St. John

Caltech Surveys Ltd. has an opening for a Survey Assistant based out of our Fort St. John, BC Office. As a survey assistant you will work on wellsite and pipeline surveys.

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license. Candidates must be able to pass drug and alcohol testing as required to access work sites.

Preference will be given to those candidates with experience and safety certification (example: First Aid/CPR, H2S Alive, PST, ATV Training), but neither is required.

Candidates must be willing to travel and spend time out of town, as well as work outdoors for extended periods of time. Must be willing to work longer days, and some weekends, including multiple days out of town.

Duties include:
– assisting survey party chief on wellsite and pipeline surveys
– placing iron posts with sledge hammer
– digging holes
– operating ATVs, GPS equipment, pipe locators
– marking wellsites and pipelines with wood stakes
– other duties as required

Survey Party Chief – Fort St. John

Are you an enthusiastic and experienced Survey Party Chief looking to become part of a vibrant land surveying company? Do you enjoy the challenge of working as part of a fast paced, client focused team?

Caltech Surveys is currently looking for field staff to add to our Fort St. John, BC team. This position will require individuals that work well in a team atmosphere, enjoy being outdoors, and on occasion have the ability to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and perform field survey work with the help of Survey Assistants
  • Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, to review and manage project budgets, timeline requirements, priorities and survey methodology
  • Provide guidance, leadership and mentorship to Survey Assistants working with you
  • Act as a company representative, liaising directly with client field representatives and land owners
  • Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists and digital data in required formats for Project Managers, Land Surveyors and Drafting personnel
  • Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the Caltech Surveys safety program

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Geomatics Technology or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years’ experience with legal, construction, or oil and gas related surveys.
  • Working knowledge of RTK GPS and conventional survey methods.
  • A keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • A positive attitude and a desire to exceed client expectations.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and travel if required. Comfortable with staying in hotels and camp, if necessary.
